Both the GPU and the CPU are being stressed by Total War: Warhammer II, and many have encountered difficulty running the game near the unit cap. The game can be played on an ATI Radeon HD 5770, but shaders and the resolution being turned down is helpful in stop the frames dropping so much and stuttering or lagging. The recommended NVIDIA GeForce GTX 770 is a safe GPU that will deliver higher performance in large battles with its higher shader and texture count, coupled with the i5-4570, the GTX 1070 is again said to be better as an ideal GPU for Total War: Warhammer II by the community. The minimum 5GB of memory will get you through the game, but due to the ever changing nature of the amount of units, the recommended 8GB will allow for more flexible and risk free gameplay. Keep 60GB free for the game, whilst many have stated that it’s actually 48GB, you should hold the extra space for updates and mods.
Disabling “3D Portholes†for Total War games improves FPS, the minor change is the unit profiles become 2D instead of animated and 3D. Anti-Aliasing can also be turned down for improved performance, and the slightly jagged edges aren’t as noticeable from the main viewpoint of the game. Turning down shadow detail, texture detail and other factors that affect the individual units can give higher frames, especially when there is a large amount of assets on the screen. Unit detail may also help performance, but used at the expense of graphics of the units that are the heart of the game.
